This book has no real substance. No actionable steps or plans to help in the everyday classroom. It is very repetitious and full of fluff to fill his required word count.In chapter 2 the author, school admin at the time, describes chastising 6 teachers of a middle school student who refused to do any work. He stated that it is the teachers responsibility to figure out how to get him to learn and anything short of it the teacher is not doing their job.In chapter 3 he recommends you have students “Build a resume of failures” to share with the class at the end of the year. Yes, we should teach how to work through failure but a “resume of failures” is not right.In honesty I only read 80 of 177 pages. I am not finishing the book as I feel my time would be better suited reading a different educational book. As an educator and leader I thoroughly enjoyed the book "Culturize: Every Student. Every Day. Whatever It Takes" by Jimmy Casas. Like when you hear Jimmy present or work/meet with him, the book "Culturize" inspires, challenges, and compels you to be better. Drawing from his own personal experiences as a student, teacher, and administrator, Jimmy sets a framework, a mindset that all educators should have toward their students, their craft, their profession, their schools, and their communities.
